Manuel Valls addresses contemporary antisemitism in Mallorca

During his visit to Palma as a guest of the Fundació Ledor Vador, former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls gave an interview to Mallorcadiario in which he reflects on the resurgence of antisemitism in Europe and the challenges it poses in today’s political and social context.

Valls is taking part this Wednesday, 23 September, in the conference “Antisemitism in the light of 7 October”, organised by the Fundació Ledor Vador and taking place at 7:30 p.m. at the Teatre Maruja Alfaro Mar i Terra in Palma.



In the interview, the French politician and historian identifies the attacks of 7 October 2023 as a turning point for analysing new manifestations of antisemitism and the ways in which they spread, particularly through digital platforms. He also discusses the relationship between antisemitism and anti-Zionism, the European political landscape and the need to preserve historical memory in the face of hate speech.

Valls also pays particular attention to Mallorca and the history of the Xuetes, which he considers a unique example from which to reflect on persecution, discrimination and the persistence of prejudice across generations.

The conference forms part of the Fundació Ledor Vador’s work to promote knowledge of Jewish history and culture, encourage dialogue and contribute to reflection on antisemitism and other forms of intolerance in our society.
